The opportunity exists for an emergency physician to have a pivotal role in the continuous development of emergency services at Bendigo Health.
It is expected that the applicant will have strong leadership and communication skills and a commitment to teamwork.
The emergency physician will support and assist the Director of Emergency Medicine in the delivery of high-quality patient care, supervision of medical staff, participation in educational and quality improvement activities, representation at interdepartmental meetings, and recruitment and retention of staff.
Key Responsibilities
The Emergency Physician will support the Director of Emergency Medicine in:
- Provision of high-quality clinical care to emergency patients
- The supervision and management of the emergency department to ensure the delivery of high quality, safe patient care
- The supervision and management of the emergency department to ensure patient flow in line with NEAT & state based KPIs
- The application of evidence-based practice, on-going evaluation of outcomes and key performance indicators and continual improvement in service delivery
- Leading and managing change, acting as a role model for other staff and supporting leadership development
- Direct clinical supervision and teaching of all levels of emergency department staff, particularly emergency medicine trainees.
- Participate in continuing medical education sessions to postgraduate emergency medical staff.
- The development of a culture within the Emergency Department that supports valuing one another, exploring new ways of working together, the promotion of excellence and continuous improvement.
- Working in partnership with management and inpatient units to ensure an integrated approach to the delivery of emergency patient care within the Hospital and throughout Bendigo Health.
- The effective and efficient management of resources in the delivery of high quality safe emergency patient care.
- Represent the Department of Emergency Medicine as delegated.
- Providing clear and positive leadership ‘on the floor’ in facilitating the patient flow within the ED.
- Assist when requested by the Director in developing and evaluating clinical processes for the emergency department.
- Participate in providing outreach clinical and education services to Regional Health Services as part of the FACEM outreach team.

Your New Division
The Clinical Operations Division encompasses acute, cancer and mental health services. We provide a wide range of general medical, surgical and specialty services including but not limited to; Oncology, Cardiology, Renal, Emergency, Women’s and Children’s, Critical Care, Specialist Clinics, Cancer Clinics and Mental Health Services.
Within a state-of-the-art hospital, our Ambulatory and Critical Care, Medical Services, Surgical Services and Women’s and Children’s (including an Early Parenting Centre) areas use the latest technologies to provide excellent care. Our world class Cancer Centre uses a multi-disciplinary, integrated approach to treat specific cancers. The Cancer Centre offers medical oncology, radiation oncology, specialist nurses, clinical trials and cancer research, palliative care, and a Cancer Wellness Program.
The Mental Health Service provides psychiatric care and treatment across a large catchment covering the Loddon Mallee region. Family sensitive practice is central to our models of mental health care and best practice ensures the identification, inclusion and support of families, carers and children.
Each year our onsite Specialist Clinics provide over 100,000 service events, we also see more than 60,000 people in our Emergency Department and welcome around 1700 babies into the world. The Clinical Operations Division assists with the admission of more than 50,000 patients into the hospital each year.
