Bendigo Health is seeking an enthusiastic and committed Advanced Trainee in General Medicine to join our team. This position offers broad clinical exposure, excellent supervision, and strong support for career progression in General Medicine.
The Advanced Trainee will work closely with one of three inpatient general medical teams—Gastroenterology, Neurology/Renal, or Endocrinology—each staffed by Interns, HMOs, and a Basic Physician Trainee (BPT). There will also be opportunities to manage complex and undifferentiated acute medical cases in the Acute Medical Unit. Some weekend shifts will be required, including ward rounds under consultant supervision, and are scheduled in line with the Enterprise Bargaining Agreement (EBA).
This role offers a diverse and rewarding experience with exposure to a wide range of acute and chronic medical conditions, both inpatient and outpatient. Daily consultant-led ward rounds are a core part of the role, and depending on experience, the Advanced Trainee may lead rounds under supervision. The successful candidate will also attend outpatient clinics tailored to their training goals, including areas such as Gastroenterology, Neurology, and Peri-operative Medicine.
The position includes access to Bendigo Health’s internal education program as well as external sessions through the Austin/Northern teaching network and the Victorian IMG (VIMG) program. Active participation in Grand Rounds, Journal Club, and BPT teaching is expected. The trainee will be encouraged to support FRACP candidates and assist Directors of Physician Education (DPEs) with exam preparation and coordination.
We are committed to supporting professional development. The successful applicant will be encouraged to undertake a quality improvement or research project during their term. With strong consultant engagement, educational opportunities, and a supportive team environment, this position is ideal for a motivated trainee seeking to develop into a confident and well-rounded General Physician.
