Bendigo Health’s Emergency HMO year is designed for motivated junior doctors who are committed to pursuing a career in Emergency Medicine. This program provides the clinical exposure, supervision, and structured training needed to build a strong foundation for future ACEM training.

Based in our regional referral Emergency Department, HMOs work at the frontline of acute care, managing a diverse and challenging case mix that includes trauma, paediatrics, mental health presentations, and complex medical emergencies. The role provides a valuable opportunity to develop independent decision-making, procedural competence, and critical thinking in a fast-paced, time-sensitive environment.

The program features regular consultant-led teaching, protected education time, and simulation-based learning, all within a department recognised for its supportive team culture and strong senior presence. As a major regional health service, Bendigo Health offers an exceptional level of autonomy and clinical responsibility—ideal for doctors seeking hands-on experience that extends beyond typical metropolitan exposure.

To be considered for this position, applicants should:

  • Have a minimum of two years’ postgraduate clinical experience and be PGY3 or above by the 2026 clinical year.
