As a casual Hospital Medical Officer, you will be able to work across many locations and departments in Mental Health and have some flexibility in your time to be able to fill vacancies in rosters as they arise.


There is a need to be adaptable to the different environments that may be worked in, and a “hit the ground running” attitude.

As a Mental Health Hospital Medical Officer casual you may work in the following Units/locations:
• Inpatient Mental Health Units – Acute Adult, Older Persons, Extended Care and Parent & Infant Unit
• Residential Units – Adult Prevention and Recovery Care (APARC), Community Care Unit, Dual Diagnosis Unit, or Youth Prevention and Recovery Care (YPARC)
• Mental Health Community Teams – Bendigo, Castlemaine, Maryborough, Kyneton, Echuca and Swan Hill.

The Psychiatry Medical Team provide assessment and treatment to patients of Bendigo Health Mental Health Services and clinical leadership working within a multidisciplinary framework.


The Mental Health Service is a complex service that provides psychiatric care and treatment across a large catchment area in Victoria stretching from Swan Hill in the north of the state to Gisborne in the south. The Child and Adolescent Mental Health Service provides services to patients from birth to 17 years, the Youth Team covers ages 18 to 24 years, Adult Services cover patients from 25 to 64 years and the Older Person’s Service manages those individuals over 65 years old. In-patient and residential programs have facilities specific for youth, adult or over 65 years of age, including a specialist Parent Infant Unit and a Dual Diagnosis Rehabilitation Unit.
