The Position
The Public Health Registrar works within the LMPHU and provides subject matter expertise and technical support across all functions of the unit including communicable disease prevention and control, prevention and population health, public health strategy and planning, and epidemiology and surveillance.
Reporting to the Public Health Unit Clinical Unit Head, this position is suitable for individuals intending to / or currently undertaking, advanced training in Public Health Medicine through the Australasian Faculty of Public Health Medicine within the Royal Australasian College of Physicians. The Public Health Registrar will acquire the knowledge, skills and aptitudes of a public health physician by completing, with guidance from regional education coordinators, supervisors, and mentors, placements in a variety of public health activities.
This dynamic role will contribute to the span of LMPHU activities in line with the LMPHU Strategic Plan. Previous focus areas have included enhancing the response to public health emergencies in the Loddon Mallee (including flooding and bushfires), supporting delivery of the population health catchment plan and coordinating response activities to communicable disease incidents and outbreaks. The public health registrar takes on project leadership in seasonal preparedness (summer and winter planning), vaccine uplift, sexual health and pandemic planning. This exciting role will contribute to delivery of a resilient and sustainable place-based public health response.
Victorian AFPHM Registrar Coordinated Recruitment Process
The Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit, Bendigo Health is participating in a coordinated recruitment process for 2027 to support planning for applicants who wish to apply to multiple organisations. Participating organisations commit to coordinating the timing of their advertising, interviewing and offers, to increase the efficiency and transparency of the recruitment processes for all parties. The participating organisations for 2027 are:

- The South East Public Health Unit
- The Western Public Health Unit
- The Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit
- The Barwon South West Public Health Unit
- The Gippsland Regional Public Health Unit
- The Grampians Public Health Unit
Candidates must apply to each organisation they are interested in working for individually; however, candidates do not have to apply to all participating organisations. All applications must be submitted by midnight on Sunday 16 August 2026. Interviews will be held for participating organisations between Monday 17 August and Friday 28 August. Each orgnaisation will conduct their own interviews and interview processes may differ between organisations.
Following interviews, offers will be made to candidates between Monday 31 August and Friday 11 September.
Individual candidates may receive initial offers from multiple organisations and will be given a strict timeframe to decide whether to accept or reject the offer. Once a successful candidate accepts an offer from an organisation, they are removed from the recruitment pool and will not receive further offers from any other organisation participating in this process. Candidates may reject all initial offers. These candidates may receive a further offer from another organisation during the recruitment period; however, this cannot be guaranteed.

Your New Division
The Chief Executive Officer within the Office of the CEO, has overall responsibility for the operation of the entire organisation and delivery of the strategic plan. The office also includes General Counsel and the General Manager of the Loddon Mallee Health Network (LMHN). Bendigo Health’s Chief Executive Officer (CEO) is the Chair of the LMHN.
General Counsel provides legal advice to the Board of Directors, Executive Team and CEO to ensure Bendigo Health satisfies legal standards. Reporting to the Chair of the LMHN, the General Manager of the LMHN ensures Bendigo Health fulfils its’ responsibilities as the leading member and advances the regional health services’ collective priorities and build a strong and connected health system.
The Loddon Mallee Public Health Unit
The Loddon-Mallee Public Health Unit (LMPHU) works to keep our regional community healthy, safe and well. We use local knowledge, community-based relationships and direct engagement to effectively tailor and deliver public health initiatives and respond to incidents and issues within the Loddon-Mallee region.
First established in 2020 to manage local cases and outbreaks of COVID-19, the LMPHU now has a wider range of responsibility for the prevention and control of communicable and non-communicable diseases and health threats. The LMPHU works in partnership with primary, acute and community health services, state government agencies, local governments and local communities to promote health and wellbeing, and tackle inequalities in health, for all those living in the Loddon-Mallee region.
